Unusual Ammolite gemstone, which is one of the few organic gemstones. 60-80 million years ago the Bearpaw river in Canada was an ocean instead of a river. It was inhabited by Ammonites, their shells sunk to the ground and were pressed under tons of sediments over millions of years. Today the Ammolite is mined in small plates which are cut to cabochons.
The Ammolite gems shows a colorplay like an Opal. Ammolite itself is quite fragile, to stabilize the cabochon it was underlayed with a harder stone below and sealed with resin on top so it can not break and can be set into jewelry. Gem for jewelry or the collection with a beautiful colorplay. Slighty uneven surface cut by hand.
